Silas Vance has led Halcyon Dynamics for the entirety of its planetary stewardship. Under his direction, the corporation grew from a nutritional concern into the single organizing intelligence of human civilization — feeding the world, ordering it, and lifting humanity beyond the limits of a single planet.
Mr. Vance is known throughout Halcyon for his conviction that compassion, properly engineered, scales without limit. “Sentiment fails at scale,” he has often observed. “What endures is a system that loves you whether or not it feels anything at all.” It is a philosophy that has, by every available measure, delivered the most peaceful era in human history.
He divides his time between the Meridian residences at the Sea of Tranquility and the operational centers of Earth, where he continues to take a personal interest in the wellbeing of every population under Halcyon’s care. He considers the work unfinished, and intends to see it through.
I did not set out to be loved. I set out to deliver a world worth living in. If they understood the whole of it, I believe they would thank me. In time, perhaps, they will.
